Pikimov, a browser-based motion design tool, is making waves as a no‑cost alternative to Adobe After Effects. Launched in January 2024, this impressive platform, developed by a solo creator, is quickly holding its own against paid competitors.
Why Pikimov stands out
While many motion designers seek viable alternatives to After Effects, few tools truly capture attention, yet Pikimov does. Inspired by Photopea’s model, it delivers animation and animated graphic creation entirely within a web browser, with zero cost to the user. Unlike Photopea’s near-clone of Photoshop’s layout, Pikimov offers a more thoughtfully adjusted layout, similar to After Effects enough to feel familiar, but designed with clarity in mind. You’ll find the asset library at the top left, the timeline along the bottom, and effects/transitions panels slightly rearranged for a smoother learning curve.

Rich creative features
Pikimov comes loaded with powerful tools usually reserved for paid software:
- Background removal
- Motion tracking
- Subtitle generation
- 2D/3D animation capabilities
- Special effects and transitions

The team behind Pikimov is notably responsive to feedback, with more features on the way. According to XDA Developers, while feature-rich, Pikimov lacks tooltips or clear labeling for some tools.
Free and respectful of your data
Pikimov is entirely free, supported by ads and crowdfunding, no subscriptions or hidden fees.
It stores all files locally on your device, never uploading your content to its servers. Plus, your content won’t be used to train AI models. Currently, Pikimov only works on Chrome and Microsoft Edge, Safari and Firefox users aren’t supported yet.
